I just turned 20 today.
Which means that 25% of my life is gone. (if we expect that I disappear at 80)
So here are 10 lessons I would share to my 10-year-old self:
Do many different things to find YOUR thing. 10s are for exploration and learning about yourself. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Fall hard. Relationships and breakups make you understand what you're looking for in a relationship. The values you hold dear. Don't forget your family and friends (unless they make you feel like sh*t). You still have 90% of the time you will spend with your family left. At age 20, you will only have 10% left.
Apply the 20/80 rule of health. Sleep well. Eat healthy. Move your body.
Don't let other people’s opinions let you down. Respect them because they are human beings. Ignore them if they don’t make you a better person. In the end, nothing matters.
Do lots of side quests. Live the stories that will make you look like a hero to your children. Bonus point if you lived abroad for more than 3 months. The average 20-year-old doesn’t know where he wants to live in the long term.
Avoid boring people. Including yourself. Especially if they are not ambitious in some ways (career, sport, ect.). Ambitious people understand each other.
You are one cold email away from drastically changing your life. Learn to do it well.
Take calculated bets. Balance risk and opportunities. Ex: shipping (useful) coding projects, creating content…
Do compounding activities. Play long term games with long term people
Do whatever you want. In the end, you're the master of your life. You don't have to follow anybody’s advice. Live your life true to yourself.
Happy birthday Rémy!
